Trumpeter Farnell Newton and frequently collaborators Jarrod Lawson and Tony Ozier (who also runs the FNBeatsGalore label with Newton) have just quietly dropped a new smooth, soulful track for the masses. Word is that it's not officially out until March but it's already up on iTunes for your downloading pleasure.
Technically, this is the first taste of Newton’s upcoming Ready To Roll effort, a soul, jazz and funk album with a positive message. Hear the rest of the record on Saturday, March 21 at Jimmy Mak’s when Newton celebrates both his birthday and the CD’s release. Until then, you'll definitely want to help make this record a reality (it features contributions from funky, jazzy greats like Bootsy Collins and Skerik) by supporting his Kickstarter now!
And if you really can’t wait that long to get your sweetly harmonized, soulful fix, head to Portland Prime this Friday, February 27 to send Lawson off to Asia as, just hours later, he heads to performances abroad at Billboard Live Tokyo, Billboard Live Osaka and the Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival. His trio of Chance Hayden on guitar and Chris Matthews on drums will join Lawson at Prime, plus special guest saxophonist Devin Phillips—all of which’ll be capped off by a champagne toast at 10pm. Check out more of his style below during one of Hayden's Peace House Sessions.
And if that's not enough, you can always catch all sorts of funked up business every First Thursday at Dante's where Ozier hosts the world-famous Dookie Jam!
