There was a pleasantly soothing progression of Portland-made music at the Doug Fir Lounge on Thursday night: starting with the emotionally intense, intoxicatingly soulful stylings of Thanks—where the captivating Jimi Hendrix belted out lovelorn lyrics backed by her forceful band—to the dancey, electrified grooves of Hosannas—constructing extended dance jams with ease—to the joyfully bombastic, melodic power pop of headliner Rags & Ribbons.
Kudos to the bands for taking it upon themselves to try something new with the often feeble lighting at the Doug Fir (with a little help from Lights Up Loud). While one of Portland's most sonically capable venues, it was a welcome change to see to see the visuals spruced up while Portlanders received their requisite aural fix. CY
