On the Ides of March in 1969, Portland’s most venerated record store opened its doors at 3pm with the squelching, fuzzy guitars of The Beatles’ “It’s All Too Much” spilling out the front door. In the years since, Millennium has been the bedrock of our music community—Stumptown would not be the music mecca it is without the gracious support of owner Terry Currier, the man who pioneered the in-store performance in 1989. Expect the same soundtrack—plus cake (edible stuff, not the band) and a coloring book memorializing MM’s history—at 3pm in the store; then make your way down to the Aladdin for local rock-and-roll stars The Dandy Warhols, Jon Koonce and Crazy 8s.
