Montavilla Jazz Festival

Six years in, the Montavilla Jazz Festival continues to be one of the greatest two-day exhibitions of local jazz, showcasing a who’s who of scenesters including the legendary Mel Brown, Ezra Weiss Big Band, Bobby Torres Ensemble, Charlie Porter Quintet, vocalist Sherry Alves with pianist George Colligan and many more. It also provides a platform for students on the PROWUS stage and progressive community orgs like the Creative Music Guild (presenting Wayne Horvitz this year) and Portland Jazz Composers Ensemble (playing with Mel Brown and Gordon Lee). And in addition to all the main stage action, the Alan Jones Academy of Music will host an after-hours jam session on Saturday night at the nearby East Glisan Pizza Lounge.
